Mexican Breakfast Dishes Celebrating Day of the Dead
From Mexican breakfast casseroles to huevos rancheros to tacos, these breakfast recipes will help you ring in Día de los Muertos.
National Mashed Potato Day is a pretty big deal around here. What’s not to love about a day celebrating a classic Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, falls as the calendar flips from October to November. That timing means it’s sometimes mistaken as Mexico’s version of Halloween or Catholicism’s All Souls Day. But it’s very much its own holiday, steeped in tradition with influences from Mesoamerican ritual, Spanish culture and European religion.
On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the veil between the land of the dead and the land of the living blurs, allowing the souls of the deceased to reunite with ancestry in the land of the living. It’s a day of celebration and family, marked with music, marigolds, candles and food.
We’ve gathered some Mexican breakfast dishes to kick off your Day of the Dead festivities.
