Taco Rice
Our Zesty Hot Sausage mixed with taco seasoning, diced onions, and peppers, will take your taste buds south of the border. Easy to make and great as a starter or a meal.
Ingredients
- 1 Pound Owens Hot Pork Sausage
- 1/2 Cup onion diced
- 1 red bell pepper diced
- 1 jalapeño pepper seeded and diced
- 1 garlic diced
- 14.5 Ounces canned diced tomatoes drained
- 2 Cups white rice
- 1 Package low sodium taco seasoning
- 2 1/2 Cups low sodium chicken broth
Ideas for toppings: salsa, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, fresh cilantro, black beans, sweet corn

- In a large saucepan, add sausage and crumble over medium heat until fully cooked, about 5 minutes.
- Add onion and peppers continue to cook until onions are translucent and peppers are tender.
- Add garlic to the pan and sauté 30 seconds or until garlic becomes fragrant.
- Add diced tomatoes, rice and taco seasoning. Stir to incorporate.
- Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Place bowls of toppings for guests to add the toppings of their choice.
